Captain America's Shield (Part 8)!

LAST PART!!! YAY!!!!

Step thirty-seven: I measured out some brackets for the back of the shield using a thicker sheet of sheet metal.

Step thirty-eight: Using two old belts that I bought at a garage sale I cut a small section with the buckle ends. Then two smaller sections at the middle section of each belt.

Step thirty-nine: Then with a rivet gun I attached the belts to the brackets.

Step forty: I used the same industrial two way tape to attach the brackets to the inside of the shield.

And now you have a Captain America shield!!

Step thirty-three: After the paint on the star dried. We used the special two way industrial strength tape and cut small pieces and placed them onto the back of the star then peeled the protective layer away and placed it gently on the center of the shield.

Step thirty-four: Sadly one of the three holes wasn't covered so we took the Bondo Glazing and Spot Putty and fill it in and went over the putty with a dark blue nail polish that I had.

Step thirty-five: I lined took a black Sharpie and traced back around the circles and once the Sharpie dried I took a silver metallic Sharpie around over the black. It created a fantastic barrier to the colors.

Dancing Baby Groot (Part 1)!

I am Groot. Today I'm going to start explaining my process of creating a dancing baby Groot. Here is one of the many GIFs I have of the potted baby Groot dancing scene at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy. Sadly I don't have wizarding powers, so when I print this page my GIF won't be dancing.

He's so cute!! I love Groot! In all forms! *interesting factoid for those who don't know. Groot's whole dancing routine is actually based off director James Gunn. He took a camera and recorded himself and then only allowed the animators to know and see it so they could animate Groot.*

Anyway, back on topic.

Originally I was going to use a Flip-Flap flower that someone can put on the dashboard of their car. Seemed wise at the time, but then I started taking it apart and realized that it would just be easier to create him from scratch.


I did go out to Michael's and purchase four packs of Polymer clay, one brown, one light brown, one dark green, and one olive green. I also bought a white ceramic pot that is the perfect size for this prop and a clearance holly branch from the their Christmas department.

That's all I really have at the moment for baby Groot. As well as some pictures of the destruction of the Flip-Flap.

Captain America's Shield (Part 6)!

Hey-ya! Okay so last time I left off with the last coat of blue in the center of the shield! So exciting!

Step twenty-six: Remove the tape and newspaper from circling the blue.

Step twenty-seven: Re-tape the shield so that the line that is to be painted silver is exposed.

Step twenty-eight: I used the Dupli-Color Universal Silver spray paint for the silver. Paint the stripe. I did one layer of primer and three layers of silver.

Step twenty-nine: Once the stripe is dry flip the shield over and prime and paint the interior. I did one coat of primer and three of silver.

Step thirty: De-tape the shield and admire the colors and taste the patriotism! (There's a picture of me holding the shield as I taste the freedom and loyalty)

Step thirty-one: The star! I bought a half inch thick sheet of aluminum sheet metal to use as the star portion. I went to Google and typed in "how to draw a perfect star" and then used the wiki-how tutorial. And then came to the realization that among my families many belongings, a protractor is not among that list. So instead of draw one, I copied the picture from the wiki-how page to a Word document and printed in a full page landscape page. Then cut it out with an X-Acto Knife and traced it onto the sheet metal with a sharpie. I tried using a razor blade, X-Acto knife, dremel, and tin snips. I found that the tin snips worked best, despite the curling affect on the metal. After the star was cut out I took a rubber mallet and flattened the edges of the star.

Step thirty-two: I painted the star with the same Dupli-Color Universal Silver spray paint as the stripe and interior of the shield. I did three layers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Orb (Part 2)!

Shortie! But here are two pictures of my orb. I'm going to Hobby Lobby tomorrow in search of a loopy stencil that I can use as the silver part!

Thor's Hammer (Mjolnir) (Part 2)!

So I took some pictures of the hot knife/Styrofoam cutter for you guys. And I also flattened the edges of the hammer... well all the prototypes, and because I ruined three of the four, I have found the winner of which prototype will be myeu-muh!

Now the knife portion isn't supposed be that black, my family just uses it a lot.
